The rest of the roster is about as bad as it can get, though, outside of Ridley and Simmons.

I'll just predict the same thing you said, because it is the most likely outcome.

Using this philosophy it was more likely gonna bust. I’d rather have the “safe guy” that can move the chains and have established clock controlling drives than the guy that goes 3 and out if he doesn’t complete a Deep bomb or turn the ball over |

Listen or watch comments about AR's recent performance from Kurt Warner, Pat Kerwin, Jim Miller, Chris Simms.

AR isn't a finished product. Jones is.

And speaking of playing against backups - Jones was playing against them too and was not impressive. Even when he played with most of our #1s against backups he was very much underwhelming. |

May be the case, but could just as easily be the opposite. I said I would go with AR for the ceiling and because I'm a baptism by fire type. I certainly understand the reasoning for Jones, though.
We're not in the building. I don't know if during film study, Steichen points something out or asks a question of AR and then has to close his eyes and rub the corners of his eyes exasperated because we've been over this a hundred times. Or maybe the on-field stuff is the sole, simple answer. They don't think they can afford another season of 6-8 drive stretches of 3-and-outs sucking the life out of their own defense. They could still believe in him, but realize continued baptism by fire A.) doesn't work for this kid, and/or B.) it's going to get them all shit canned. ------- As far as Jones... I've seen enough smart people say that his situation/surroundings paint a skewed picture of him. And you can't help but notice redemption arcs like sub-60% passers Geno Smith and Sam Darnold moving from bad situations into better situations and having three straight solid seasons (Smith) and putting up MVP-type numbers (Darnold) respectively. Jones is certainly limited, but he doesn't need to be a world-beater. More like an Alex Smith type could suffice. |

In the second game, the 90 yard drive was nice. But the short field after the turnover was back to throwing balls in the dirt. Even his beautiful pass to Gould... It might have been O'Sullivan's breakdown showing the design of the play and how he had a hard time believing AR wasn't supposed to be looking left where the pick was. Jones has just been steady Eddy all pre-season/camp. Yeah, he missed that deep shot and that's going to be his biggest weakness for sure. But that bald analyst in the video makes an interesting point... He said something like 12% of NFL throws are deep balls... So AR is better at 12% of the throws and Jones is much better at the other 88%. I mean look at the breakdown they show on all throws under 20-yards. Jones' numbers are actually pretty good and AR's are beyond bad. It's a bad trade-off. Last edited by ChaosTheory; 08-21-2025 at 01:07 AM. |

I’m not saying Jones has been perfect either but his drives have rhythm and you can tell when he gets in a groove, that’s the biggest difference to me there is just no rhythm when AR was at QB. |
