Spiro Agnew might not have been much of a Vice President, but he could turn a phrase.
Anyway, I was listening to Kevin Bowen, yesterday, and he made the pronouncement that the reason Carly Irsay Gordon had donned headphones was to enable her to look over Shane Steichen’s shoulder, the better to decide whether he should be fired at the end of the season. Madness runs amok on the streets of the Circle City. Granted that Coach has caught flak for his decision to rein in the offense and settle for a long range FG as time ran out. Without question, he was bailed out by a colossal brain fart that filled the stadium with a stench that rose to the rafters, but… No one who watched the Giants lose to Dallas can question Coach’s trepidation about giving Denver the ball with time left. Besides, the further we get away from the game, as emotion starts to cool, the more I think that the game wasn’t as close as it appeared. The Colts outgained Denver by almost 150 yards. They had more 1st downs, a five minute advantage in time of possession, and scored on almost every possession. They held Bo Nix to 200 yards through the air, made the reigning NFL defensive player of the year look ordinary, and took away Denver’s top receiving threat. All without their best Corner and Defensive End. The biggest problem the Colts encountered was an inability to convert red zone opportunities; that and an inexplicable rash of penalties. All things considered, they probably should have won by ten…going away. |
