Those Pacers teams were great, as they won 3 ABA championships in 4 years between 1970 and 1973 ...... but similarly to the AFL champions in football between 1960 and 1965, they never got a shot at the NBA champions in any of those seasons. I don't think they would have beaten the 1971-72 Lakers, as they were one of the greatest teams of all time. That Lakers team went 69-13, and had what is still a record 33-game winning streak. But I do think that they would have given the Knicks a run for their money in 1970 and 1973. The Pacers actually went to the ABA Finals 4 times in 5 years between 1969 and 1973, but they lost to Rick Barry's Oakland Oaks in 1969. The ABA beat the NBA 79 times to 76 times in the 155 exhibition games that they played against each other ...... and unlike the Pro Bowl in the NFL, they played those games like they cared, and like it meant something to them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjCd8anskXo o

Regardless of the outcome of Game 7, the Pacers will likely have thousands of fans greeting (and consoling) them when they return to Indianapolis for winning the Eastern Conference championship, and being one of the last 2 teams standings in the end. They have 3 ABA championship banners (1969-70, 1971-72, and 1972-73) and one NBA Eastern Conference championship banner (1999-2000) already hanging in the rafters ...... another banner will adorn Gainbridge Fieldhouse when all is said and done. o

As coach said, my heart dropped. We all knew from his expression that it was bad and that was it. It's a completely different game if he doesn't get hurt. No guarantee of a win, but its at least a whole lot closer.
This might be the hardest injury to stomach that I've ever seen. |

I don't think anyone wants to leave after this ride. I bet Rick gives special attention to Mathurin, Obi and Shep to prepare for another run. Unfortunately, Walk will probably do so.
Edit: Need to find a way to keep the real coach's player, James Johnson Last edited by Discflinger; 06-25-2025 at 10:54 PM. |

The Thunder have made it to 5 NBA Finals in their franchise history, winning 2 Golds (1979 and 2025) and 3 Silvers (1978, 1996, and 2012.) The Pacers have 3 Golds (1970, 1972, and 1973) and 1 Silver (1969) from the from the ABA, and 2 Silvers (2000 and 2025) from the NBA. Both franchises have a very respectable history in professional basketball ...... the Pacers will surely be hungry for more hardware in 2026 and beyond. o
