Maybe this, maybe that, the Panthers said they were willing to trade off 1, go get it. That simple.

Because they wouldn’t have gotten a QB at 9. They had to trade up and gave up a lot of assets to do it.

That would entirely negate moving up to one in the first place, which was obviously to take a quarterback. They’re trying to entice Houston to trade for the first pick. Nothing more. |

Thing is, I think there is a real shot Richardson goes 1. Teams are a lot higher on him than the fans or press are. Fans and press are always slow to the party. Media wants to talk about the good college QB's because those are built in clicks and reads. And fans are just dumb and don't know anything usually. I'm thrilled they made this trade. I thought the Colts were going to do something foolish and make that trade myself, so this was great news for me. Trading 2 first round picks, 2 second round picks and a WR like Pittman to move up three spots for a QB like Stroud or Young is the height of insanity.
At this point I'm fine with the Colts moving something small like a future 2nd round pick to move up to 3, or them just sticking at four and taking whoever is leftover (if there's somehow more than one of the 4 guys left, my preference is Young/Stroud/Richardson/Levis in that order), or trading back for more picks and getting a guy like Hooker, or even saying fuck it and taking an Anderson or Carter and then taking a guy like Hooker in the 2nd round. Any of those scenarios are better to me than what Carolina just did. And I'm not even getting the massive Levis criticism. Like I see the potential flaws, and I would prefer the potential of Richardson over him myself, but my god it seems like the narrative that he's going to be a bust has just been carved in stone without much to base it on. I want Super Bowl wins. You need a QB but you also need a pass rush. We don’t have either and both usually require a high draft choice. Putting Will R at rush end in Bradley’s defense would make it special

I’d be perfectly happy taking Anderson at 4 (if AZ trades out) and taking Hooker late 1st or early 2nd. I don’t think they have the luxury of pushing QB to next year though. That was gone when they tanked last season - whether it was intentional or not. Right or wrong they have to leave this draft with a promised “savior.”

McKee will stand in and deliver the ball knowing he will get killed. He had a decent season playing against good teams while he was surrounded by talentless players. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6eajdVB8n0 Hendon Hooker: Good arm, can run when needed. Doesn't make a lot of stupid mistakes. Footwork is good. I think McKee is more accurate, but Hooker definitely has a stronger arm and for me they are equal with Hooker getting the edge on arm strength. My main concern with him he tends to trust his arm to much and throw into coverages he shouldn't when he has an open lane for 10-15 yards. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waTp0YLhxvo

I'm well aware of why the Panthers did what they did, I'm saying the Colts now need to do what they need to do to get #1. No excuses, no bullshit, no Levis or Richardson. |
