Here's the thing that I worry about with trying to interpret whether or not the Colts are high on Abram--he isn't a turnover machine and we know that Ballard emphasizes guys who generate takeaways.

Yes, he's a tackling machine and he'd be an eraser, but 3 FFs and 2 INTs in 25 games the last two seasons isn't great. Makes me wonder if they might be higher on more balanced safeties like Savage or Rapp since they've generated more takeaways.

Agreed. I would be mildly disappointed with Abram at 26, because I want a safety who is just as proficient in 2-deep as he is coming down into the box.

Don't get me wrong, I won't be disappointed. I just think he's more Cam Chancellor than Jamal Adams or Derwin James. But there's a reason why Abram would be available at 26 and those other two were taken a lot earlier.

What makes Mississippi State S Johnathan Abram special based on some of my calls? He showed up to his meeting in a sports coat because I’m told he approached the visit like a job interview. Married with a child at 21, he was inquiring about school system for daughter while here.

I don't know if he'll be the clear-cut BPA when the Colts are on the clock, but we know Ballard values this kind of maturity and professionalism.
