Thought I would create a thread on the NFL Discussion Forum where we can discuss the NFL playoffs before, during, and after each game.
So far.....
Texans 32
Chargers 12
Ravens 28
Steelers 14
Bills 31
Broncos 7
Eagles 22
Packers 10
None of these games so far have been classics, maybe this Tampa Bay Washington game will be competitive?

I've been hearing some pretty loud cheers whenever the Washington team picks up a key 1st down.

I thought that the Commanders made a mistake by waiting until there were only 2 seconds left to call their final time-out ...... if there was a bad snap, they would have been screwed.
If they had called time-out with 5 seconds left, that would have left them enough time to spike the ball had there been a bad snap. And if the snap was good, time still would have expired by the time the ball went through the uprights and the referees made their "good" signal.
But it worked out for them anyway, as the game-winning field goal was a successful bank-shot off of the right upright as time expired.

That touchdown pass from Mahomes to Kelce just now was mildly reminiscent of the l "Sea of Hands" l catch, in the 1974 Divisional playoff game between the Raiders and the Dolphins.
As was the case with Ken Stabler back in 1974, Mahomes was on his way down, almost on his knees, and he released the ball just before they touched the turf.

Weather is going to affect both games today, snow and cold temps will give the home teams a big advantage. Especially the Eagles over the Rams, I will be surprised if this game is even close! Tonight's game in Buffalo could be even worse weather than Philly, but the Ravens should not be too negatively affected and this should be a great game!

A chronology of the play ......
A) l Mahomes was running towards the sidelines to go out of bounds.
B) l Mahomes came to a complete stop JUST BEFORE going out of bounds ...... knowing that a Texans defender would push him in the back (which is legal, because Mahomes was still in bounds.)
C) l The Texans defender pushed Mahomes in the back, not particularly hard (although he was in his rights to push him as hard as he wanted to, because Mahomes was still in bounds and there was nothing stopping him from turning up-field to try to get more yardage.)
D) l After getting a not-so-hard shove in the back, Mahomes jumped forward, as though he were just hit by a Cadillac automobile.
E) l With the Kansas City crowd screaming for a penalty, the referees correctly swallowed their whistles and did not penalize the Texans defender.

Rams leading 7-6 is surprising to me, no snow yet, the weather so far nothing like they expected it to be earlier in the week.

Right now, those 2 extra-point misses by the Eagles are looming ominously for them ...... their kicker did a good job on all 3 of his field-goal attempts in this weather, but those 2 extra-point misses also have played a part in the current scenario, which is still tight at 28-22.

Tom Brady is acting closed-minded ...... just because the Commanders went for it and made it twice on 4th down on their first drive of the game, DOES NOT NECESSARILY mean that going for it on 4th down a 3rd time in that same drive would be a good decision ...... they were in chip-shot field goal range, and they took the points.
Brady pooh-pooh-ed the 3 points that the Commanders got ...... I guess he doesn't understand the "Winnie-the-Pooh" theory of putting your hands in the honey-pot once took often, and getting stuck.

Jayden Daniels was dancing in a fancy manner after scoring a touchdown ...... even though his team is losing by a score of 34-23.
Be happy about the TD, spike the ball, and high-five your teammates ...... but dancing around as though your team has an 11-point lead instead of an 11-point deficit shows a lack of perspective.

Marcus Mariota was only 23 years-old at that time, and he had just come off of an excellent season in 2016 in which he had 26 TD's, 9 INT's, and a QB rating of 95.6.
Mariota was a mobile quarterback who was playing much better than Anthony Richardson was playing at that same point in his career ...... the Titans may have thought that they had their QB of the future, and I couldn't blame them for thinking that considering the circumstances that I pointed out.

Hindsight is always 20/20, I agree that the Titans thought they already had their franchise QB, even the Jaguars believed Bortles was their QB of the future...the team that really blew it was the Bears, Mahomes would likely have done for them what he did for KC, maybe not 2 SBs in a row but would have turned them into a winner for years to come and likely got them a championship at some point!

There was a nuance in that situation, though ...... the Bills were starting the conversions attempt from the 1-yardline instead of the 2-yardline, due to a penalty on the Chiefs.
I might have gone for 2 in that situation also, regardless of the score ...... not to chase the points, but to take advantage of what was a considerably easier 2-point conversion.

As I said, I probably would have gone for it regardless of the score.
Even if I were up by 9 points, I still would have gone for the 2 because you can't pass up an opportunity to get an easy conversion from the one-yardline ...... and if you can't get one yard, then maybe it isn't your team's day.

I would not have gone for 2 there ....... there is still a lot of football to be played.
Unless there are exceptional circumstances (such as a penalty on the defense to put the ball at the one-yardline), I don't like going for 2/chasing points until the final 7 or 8 minutes of the 4th quarter.

Or even being up by 2 ...... if the Bills had kicked that extra point just now, they would be up 23-21, and another TD and an extra point would make it a 2-possession game at 30-21 ...... like I said, there is still too much football to be played and all sorts of scenarios that might pan out to be chasing points unless it's the final 7 or 8 minutes of the 4th quarter.

Green Bay Packers: Their 3 NFL Championships in a Row Have Never Been Duplicated
(By Bob Fox)
https://greenbaybobfox.wordpress.com/2021/03/13/green-bay-packers-the-three-nfl-championships-in-a-row-have-never-been-duplicated/
"But starting in 1933, the NFL champion was determined by the ultimate winner in the postseason. That means the playoff system has been in place for 87 years now. And only one team has won three straight NFL titles during that time. And that was the Green Bay Packers who played under head coach Vince Lombardi. The Pack won NFL championships in 1965, 1966 and 1967. Many of the players who played on those teams had a chance to win three in a row once before, as the Packers won the NFL title in both 1961 and 1962, before falling just short in 1963."

I will be rooting for the Eagles, but I do believe the NFL wants the 3-peat, so I fully expect the Chiefs to get all the breaks. They should have been out of FG range on their last drive because of an obvious hands to the face that was uncalled....the guy literally ripped the Bills lineman's helmet off!

The only reason Washington was even in this game for as long as they were was because of Daniels. He played his ass off, and were it not for 3 lost fumbles, who knows how this game turns out. He played like a 10 year vet, and if he danced like a 24 year old rookie with a serious shot at becoming the first rookie QB to play in a Super Bowl, I'm OK with it.

He is one hell of a QB that's for sure. They'll be in the conversation for the next decade if he stays healthy and should get to a Superbowl(s) in the future! The fumbles cost them and not being able to stop Sequon or the run in general! I personally thought the dance was stupid under the circumstances, but they still had a shot to win the game at that point so not terrible!

That isn't the point.
You don't showboat your individual success while your team is getting their asses kicked ...... Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning would never do such a thing as Daniels did yesterday, because leaders with good perspective like Manning and Luck aren't that short-sighted. Daniels is only a 23 year-old rookie, so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and presume that by the time that he is in his late 20's he won't be acting that way anymore in that specific kind of situation.
I've pointed out on numerous occasions that football is a team game, and star players need to pick their team up (as Daniels did yesterday) ...... and by the same token, if a star player has a bad game, his team needs to pick him up because football is a team game ..... if Daniels had thrown 4 INT's yesterday but his team were up by 11 points after he scored that touchdown, I would have had no problem at all with him strutting it up in the end-zone.

^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
And I'm not just picking on Daniels, because this type of nonsense is very prevalent throughout the NFL ...... on hundreds of occasions over the last 25 to 30 years, I have seen players celebrate sacking a quarterback when their team is down by more than 14 points.
Lamarr Houston tore his ACL while celebrating a sack of New England Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, while the Bears were losing by 25 points ...... the game was so out of hand that the Patriots took Tom Brady out, and had their 2nd-string QB finishing up the final minutes of the 4th quarter.
Whooping it up over making a good play while your team is being manhandled has been going on for decades in the NFL, and unfortunately, it isn't going to stop any time soon ...... I hope that Jayden Daniels distances himself from these clowns as he matures, because I really like his game overall.
