Good to see Marvin catching balls but I'm going to save my celebration until I see him catch a few in a preseason game.

No easy way to jam every thought and idea into an opening blog after the first practice, so I will fall back upon the easiest method I know, the quickie observations. Because I'm doubling at the Brickyard (there's your auto racing reference for the day) on Saturday and Sunday, I will write other blogs in greater detail on a variety of topics.
But for those who could not make the drive to Terre Haute this morning, this is what I scribbled on my new notepad:
* Sure is odd not seeing No. 18 out there.
* Sure seems like No. 88 is back to normal. It's early yet, but I'm guessing Marvin Harrison just will not age. And every time he caught a pass, the fans cheered. Loudest reaction of the first practice, to be honest.
* Second-round pick Mike Pollak took some snaps at guard with the first team, but so too did Charlie Johnson and Dan Federkeil (all of Canada, feel free to take notice) because guard Ryan Lilja is recovering from offseason knee surgery. It's early yet, so I won't make too much of it, but I'm sticking with my gut instinct on this. I'm thinking Pollak will be the guy.
* Dom Rhodes wearing No. 38 is odd, too. Used to 33. But second-year safety Melvin Bullitt has that number now. Also, Rhodes looks leaner. Or maybe it's just because he wears the bottom of his shorts down to his knees. I can't tell.
* Linebacker Clint Session is starting out as the stong-side guy with Tyjuan Hagler out. At least for one practice, Session was out there, rotating to the side of the tight end.
* Backup QB Jim Sorgi holds onto the ball too long. Just throw it, dude.
* Running back Joseph Addai dropped a couple of short passes. The second one prompted some disgust.
