It alternates every year, a NFC team will be the home team next year, AFC the year after that.

I think it rotates back and forth... Stealers were white last yr, Giants the yr before... us the yr before that

Regardless of whether the Colts were designated as home team this year I thought I had read the Colts could choose white away uni's if they wanted. Was I mistaken?

I don't know if irony applies here or not.

In years past under Dungy there was a lot of bashing when the term "We do what we do" was used in terms of the defense and maybe even the penchant for being a pass heavy offense.

This year what strikes me as odd is the following:

For 16 games and 55 minutes the Colts strived to "do what we do" under the new leadership of Caldwell. Still somewhat pass heavy on offense and that is fine I think with most everyone because there was a certain sense of "can do" and "big cajones" when needed. On defense under the new coordinator the Colts were mixing it up more frequently even blitzing more than Colts fans were accustomed to.

When I say 16 games and 55 minutes I point to the 16 wins the Colts had along with 40 minutes against the Jets and 15 minutes yesterday.

If we were going to do what we do then what the hell was with the play calling after the 4th and goal stop. In a matter of 2 minutes of game clock the Colts not only managed to suck the air out of the collective Saints lungs they also immediately proceeded to administer mouth to mouth resuscitation and give the Saints renewed life. Sorry fellow Colts fans that was not vintage 2009 Colts "we do what we do" football. I am now firmly convinced that the one true flaw with the offense is the inability to achieve that must have first down to "FINISH". That may sound illogical but how many times have we had a little blood pressure increase at the end of games because we had to endure one last gasp desperate attempt by the Colts opponent because that one first down could not be gained. Talk about becoming passive. That 3 play "offensive" series was highly "offensive" to the senses.

As for the defense can someone, anyone, explain what the hell happened? The Colts make one of those goal line stands that could easily be the turning point in a game and then what. Yeah, they may have given up the field goal but that was on the coaching staff for ever letting that happen in the first place. The second half though was just outright pathetic. Where was the pressure? Mathis was a non factor and Freeney was obviously hobbled. Can anyone explain why after the onside kick Freeney was then getting the tape applied to the ankle, are you friggin kidding? I'm going to have recurring nightmares of Colts corners 8 to 10 yards off the LOS and back pedaling at the snap allowing Saints receivers the necessary first down yardage totally unimpeded by a defender in the first 5 yards off the LOS. There is a reason why contact is allowed right off the LOS, we advocated for enforcement of the rule years ago but apparently forget to coach the corners to do it. Disrupt the damned timing and guaranteed Brees isn't the MVP last night.

For cryin out loud I'm ranting and not even making sense to myself. Gotta let it go, my favorite team was in the Super Bowl and most of them will be back next year. Gotta breath, deep breaths, gotta calm down and get back to Consumer Chemistry. 53 friggin years old and back in school, this sucks, not even that feel good feeling of a championship to get me over the hump. Gotta go, the scientific method is calling me.

I always felt that the Colts had great GM and QB but under Dungy an average at best coach. Caldwell from what I saw this year is much better.

The reality is that the Colts faced one of the best NFC Super Bowl teams in the last 10 years if you played the 2006 Bears last night you win by three TDs.

Except for last night, he got passive at the wrong time which in the NFL happens to be every play of every damned game and THAT INCLUDES THE FRIGGIN SUPER BOWL!!!

In general, yes, he is. But the entire staff completely diverted from the formula that won them every game they played to win this year. Maybe you'd have to watch every Colts game to know, but they reverted from new-school Caldwell-style Colts to the passive Colts of the Dungy era.
