While there might be some serious growing pains with Smith at OT since it has been a while since he played on the edge, if he ended up starting there then that would be great for the team long term.

We have Slauson for RG this year and could either find a new OG next season or know we have depth with Haeg, Good and Clark for next season.

Finding the RT is necessary for the long term and if Smith can nail that down, it would be great.

We will see. I am pretty high on Smith after watching a lot of his college tape. Yeah, he will make rookie mistakes (the other guys get paid to play too) but I love the attitude and the ability that I saw on his college tape.

Walk Worthy,

Yeah, people jumped all over Nelson in the game thread when he got beat. They forget that every player gets beat every now and then, and they forget that rookies always get tested by players who are also getting paid to do a job well. Same goes for when AC gets beat.

Agree about Smith. Love how its obvious that there is a real competition going on. It bodes well for long term.

Nods.... aside from the injection of talent, the fact that we have OL options / depth is huge. Seemed like two years ago we were one injury away from a decimated running game and no pass protection.

Yeah, that write up pretty much confirms what I was seeing out of Smith the other night, and I watched him pretty extensively.

I thought that when he was in at guard, he looked a little slow off the snap and looked like he could be overpowered.

I wanna see him get starting reps Monday night.

I would like to work Smith in at tackle this year, draft a beast tackle next year and kick him back at guard, knowing he can back up an injured t.

Maybe he turns out to be just as good if not better at tackle and they don't need to draft one.

Also maybe he isn’t good enough at rt. Why just play him? If he can’t do it, put him at guard and move on
