o
Last year, I started a thread in the NFL section in regard to unnecessary roughness calls. http://www.coltfreaks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=173162 This time, I am going to take the liberty of putting a similarly themed thread in the Indianapolis Colts section ...... the play in question that I am citing did not involve the Colts, but considering the fact that the Colts play against all of the other teams in the NFL (including the Chiefs) and that the subject does indeed affect them on the whole, I believe that it is appropriate to place the new thread in this section. ****************************************** Patrick Mahomes’ Shameless Flop on Non-Late Hit Is Sign NFL Needs to Institute a Flopping Penalty (By Robert Zeglinski) https://sports.yahoo.com/patrick-mah...235632571.html A chronology of the play in question ...... A) l Mahomes was running towards the sidelines to go out of bounds. B) l Mahomes came to a complete stop JUST BEFORE going out of bounds ...... knowing that a Texans defender would push him in the back (which is legal, because Mahomes was still in bounds.) C) l The Texans defender pushed Mahomes in the back, not particularly hard (although he was in his rights to push him as hard as he wanted to, because Mahomes was still in bounds and there was nothing stopping him from turning up-field to try to get more yardage.) D) l After getting a not-so-hard shove in the back, Mahomes jumped forward as though he were just hit by a Cadillac automobile. E) l With the Kansas City crowd screaming for a penalty, the referees correctly swallowed their whistles and did not penalize the Texans defender. o

Unfortunately the NFL has turned into the NBA with certain high level players getting special privileges calls like LeBron or MJ.
It’s never gonna change if your a high level guy generating a lot of money for the NFL you’re gonna get the calls |

Yep, evidently Dan Marino was entitled to several such calls each year against the Colts.

Mahomes exploits these stupid fucking rules, as he should. He got two ridiculous PF calls yesterday.
The play above is something he's known to do. I think it was the Lions last year that called him out and planned on hitting him for faking going out of bounds and cutting back in. That and fake slides. |

Mahomes is just a smart QB. He seeks to take every advantage he can. I don't see anything wrong with that, and if he were the Colts QB, you'd be singing his praises.

Actually, I am a rare fan that would not be singing his praises if Mahomes were the QB of my favorite team and he flopped ...... for everything else that Mahomes does I would be singing his praises, but not for flopping. On a somewhat similar note, Bert Jones is my favorite player of all-time. When his career was altered in the final pre-season game of 1978, it was after a sack by Bubba Baker of the Lions which wound up separating Jones' right shoulder. This was a turning point in Colts franchise history because the Colts had just won 3 consecutive division titles from 1975 through 1977, and Jones' absence for the majority of the 1978 season was the biggest factor in their descent into a below-average team which tallied a 5-11 record by season's end. Jones' presence (and absence) was one of the earliest examples of the importance of an elite QB to a football team's overall success. I hold no ill-will toward Bubba Baker, because it was not a dirty play which injured Jones, it was just an unfortunate twist-of-fate that had Jones being tackled and laid upon by a 265-pound lineman which separated his shoulder ...... it was not a late-hit or a flagrant facemask, it was just a clean, hard tackle which resulted in a fateful injury to Jones. I say somewhat similar note because I don't necessarily always side with my favorite team and/or against a rival team in terms of fairness ...... when I was a kid I hated the Oakland Raiders, because I thought that they were the dirtiest bunch of gangsters ever to take a football field ...... if the Baltimore Colts had collectively played as underhanded and dirty as the Oakland Raiders did, I would not have been proud of that aspect of their play, regardless of how successful they were. o
