To say he was pissed was an understatement. Liked the way that Lynn dealt with it as well. Looks like he has a burning desire to succeed. I suspect he is going to struggle to make our roster unless somehow we keep 4 guys though. Think that Doyle, Alie-Cox and Burton are absolute locks to make the team, quite how Nix goes is anyone's guess. Not heard much about him during training camp.

I also see that Vollert after he was released by the Chargers was picked up by the Panthers and only lasted 4 days.

Panthers had to make room for a 7th round DE.

I think ukcolt is implying this, but I have to believe that if Vollert makes the team, Nix doesnt, and vice-versa.

Nix is a bit of a head scratcher... he played in 3 games last year, behind the 9th best OL.... 3 targets, 2 catches, 4 yards. 0 carries for 0 yards. Granted carries and (even less so) catches are not what the FB position is about, but I dont see what we expect out of him that Pittsburgh could not produce.

Yes, it could be a case of another spot opening up if they decide to move on from Nix, and then maybe it could be Vollert's spot on the roster. But i am not sure even then he sticks. There could quite easily be some TE's released or made available via trade as was muted earlier in the offseason.

Good pass-catching TE...soft hands, but not much of a blocker.
Needs work on blocking, could be a keeper.

With the Trey Burton injury, I think that Farrod Green might have a leg up for the final TE spot.

Nix couldn't wash the smell of Steelers bench off of him... More seriously, I was somewhat intrigued to being a non-conventional team that used a fullback properly in the run game, it just wasn't to be.
