The talent/players on the secondary is fine.
Individual effort was there. The real problem was they were not in position to make plays because Matt Eberflus had called a zone defense the majority (at least 80%) of the game. And when the play calls had Hooker or Geathers or Willis covering TE's/RB's instead of protecting the deep ball in that zone,...Winston made them pay. This defensive performance was all on Eberflus for not making mid-game adjustments when they were being torched. I do think the reason was because his defense was getting turnovers...But that's no excuse when a QB is throwing 85% completion percentage on you...and those completions are coming within 2-3 seconds of snapping the ball, because his receivers got into the holes in the zones that fast. This also hurts the pass rush, because 2-3 seconds is generally not enough time for 4 down linemen to get to the QB. And when it was,..Winston was able to roll out and give his an extra second to get to that open spot. Eberflus HAS to learn to make in-game adjustments...or I will want him gone next year. |

I think halftime adjustments are kind of a myth. You have to make in game adjustments. At halftime, by the time you get inside, use the bathroom, get something to drink and the coaches are done talking you have about a couple minutes. Not really enough time to put in comprehensive adjustments. Last edited by Chromeburn; 12-09-2019 at 12:30 PM. |

How many sacks did the Colts get? Not nearly enough. They need a big bad passrusher.

Even when they got pressure, it didn't matter much. They still found the zones and completed too many passes. Also, a decent secondary can help those pass rushers have more time to get to the QB.

Two straight games, complete fucking trash. Giving up a completion percentage record is a whole new level of awful.

see post 14. We already had that discussion.
Allowing 29 completions out of 30 passes is fucking pathetic, no matter the pass rush or lack of. |

It not one thing or the other, it's BOTH. You get some pass rush, it makes playing DB a lot easier. Freeney and Mathis made work easier for their DB's. |

BUT....Every team has these same rules that their secondary has to go by covering those WR's and NONE of them suck as bad as the Colts secondary has the last two weeks or has ever allowed 29 of 30 completions, the lone incompletion was a pass behind the line of scrimmage. Literally every pass Brees threw beyond the line of scrimmage he completed. I don't give a fuck how poor your pass rush is, that is fucking PATHETIC on a whole new level. A: The average completion % and QB rating of the last 3 QBs this defense has faced. Considering 2 of those 3 are Tannehill and Winston that is a harsh indictment of this defense. |
