Spencer Ware states that it is his intention to play this year.

I am NOT done for season! When things happen you have to adjust and treat accordingly.I'm going to play THIS YEAR,so there are things that need to be done before that happens that'll put me in the best case scenario.MINOR,MINOR, MINOR setback because of timing. #GODsPLAN #YESLAWD

Rapoport states his injury will require ankle surgery and he is expected to be out 5 - 6 weeks. Since the Colts placed him on PUP, he cannot play for the Colts this year. He will need to reach an injury settlement and look for a contract elsewhere.

Update: Spencer Ware is having ankle surgery, which has a 5-6 week recovery. With an injury settlement, he could play again this season for someone and he plans on it. The knee, by the way, is fine.

Thats fine and I wish him luck. I really don’t want to carry four RBs on the roster anyway. I think that depth could be used at WR or secondary.

I agree. Cut down day is going to be extremely difficult. Go with 3 running backs on the active roster and find one more RB that can be stashed on the PS.

Is that a new rule? I thought teams could put players on the PUP and activate them after week 6.

Yes, I think there were some tweaks to the details in the last CBA. From what I have seen, it depends on timing - if placed on the reserve/PUP list at the end of camp, a player only has to miss the first six weeks of the season, but since Ware was moved there in the middle of camp he can't suit up for the Colts this season.

Probably to avoid stashing players there so they can add to the 90

The Colts officially released Spencer Ware today. Apparently they finally reached an injury settlement.
