Default Ballard

I've been a huge supporter of Ballard. I believe in his way of building a team, through the lines. He has built a great offensive line that has been decimated my injuries. I give him a break on that. He, however, has been a disaster at building the defensive line. Choosing guys with physical traits that need to be developed depends on A) choosing guys that are able to develop and B) having coaches that can develop them (Ballard hired the coaches). He has failed miserably and until he succeeds this team is going absolutely nowhere. The Colts are dead last in QB pressures with 25, are better at 31st in hurries with 8, and shine our best with sacks at 28th with 10 sacks. No team is going to win anything with these kind of numbers. Maybe the scheme does suck but so do the players implementing that scheme. This is 100% on Ballard. Not sure where to go from here but it is fucking depressing how much we have spent on defensive ends and how little we have to show for it.

As long as Matt Eberflus is D Coordinator, with his refusal to implement anything resembling innovative blitz schemes, this team is going to struggle to generate pressure on opposing Quarterbacks.

Get rid of Flus, ditch the cover 2, bring in a couple of high quality man covers, and use the speed on D to implement an attacking scheme.

I hate the Cover 2 so much, and hate that it's such a centerpiece of this defense.

How many picks spent on DE? 6-7? Defense doesn’t work if you can’t rush the passer with the front four. And they have a probowl tackle getting double teamed every play. So they are getting single blocked every play. The Cowboys who run the same scheme found two guys more effective this last draft alone.

Ironic you use Cowboys who rid themselves of Eberpuss. Cowboys defense looked about the same as the Colts do now when he was there.

I feel like we have the guys.... Could we use some better pass rush talent hell yes but our D coordinator is the major issue.

Perhaps the "Flus" will attract a head coach consideration and depart without us having help him to the door and not letting it hit him on the way out. One can hope I suppose.

I like Ballard ...... as disappointing as the 2021 season was overall (particularly the 2-game losing streak which ended the season), I believe that the fact that the Colts were 9-6 with 2 games left to play in spite of some bad gaffes at crucial times from their quarterback is an indication that he is indeed in the process of building a complete team, as opposed to an extremely quarterback-dependent team (as were many of the teams that were lead by Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck between 1999 and 2018.)
