Colts Claim Kicker
Chase McLaughlin, rookie kicker most recently with the 49ers, where he missed game winning kick in overtime against Seattle but was otherwise a perfect 7-for-7

Vinny on injury report so they are probably gonna carry the new guy as insurance for Sunday. Beyond that who knows?

Commentators this last game said that Vinny has been injured for a while. They would only know that if someone from the team told them that during a production meeting. So why was Vinatieri not on the injury report before this week?

Vinnie will go on IR in the near future which will give him an opportunity to retire.

Vinatieri dealt with a knee injury throughout most of camp and preseason activities. He missed a good amount of time and there were a few rumors that he might miss the beginning of the regular season. But he healed up enough to be good enough to play in the third preseason game and when that went well was deemed "good to go" to play in the first regular season game. There were reports early in the season that he was also dealing with a toe injury as well. I always thought that these injuries were screwing up his mechanics and at least part of the reason he has been so inconsistent this year. |

If most (or all) of this true, I would not count out the possibility of Vinatieri kicking in the NFL next season ........ whether it be with the Colts, or another team. The scenario sounds mildly reminiscent to when Andrew Luck talked about how he rushed his rehab before and during the 2017 season, the season of which he missed completely ........ there were major differences between the two situations (such as the fact that Luck was much younger than Vinatieri is now, that he was a QB and Vinatieri is a kicker, and that his injuries were considerably more serious that were Vinatieri's), but the lack of patience with the rehab/recovery process is similar. o

I should add that in the SF-SEA game, McLaughlin hit a beautiful, high pressure 47-yarder as time ran out to send the game into overtime:

Not that i think anyone was really blaming Vinny in this game, but missing a 55 yarder i am not concerned about, he made the 3 other kicks he should have. The two blocks were just poor protection, not on Vinny.

The first block might've been a low kick. That 55 yarder would have been good from 50, it bent right at the end of the kick. If he hadn't had all the other misses this year, we would not have blinked at that, its a low percentage kick regardless.
