Not the discussion. They name him the starter, and didnt start him. I doubt he will start in this last game. How this translates when the season starts will be interesting. The Colts could have been honest with the fans.

For fans as interested as most of us are on this board AR not starting or playing was expected. It would have been a nice and decent thing for the Colts to have announced before the game that he wouldn't play so people who were casual fans could make plans accordingly.

They didn't name him the starter for that game. They named him the #1 QB on the depth chart alone, prior to that he and Minshew were both listed as #1. That had nothing to do with the Bears game.

Preseason has understandable trends. For example, we all knew when it was 4-games, that Week 3 was the only one where you might see a half of starters. If you bought games to Week 4 expecting to see Peyton Manning... sorry?
Nowadays, one of the trends is working your 1's during joint-practices which eliminates the need for 1's in the game. Use that time for depth and bubble guys. This is not the same as the NBA, with all their load-management shit, that have healthy starters sit out random games, including marquee match-ups. |

Oh, Doyle. Take breath and rest your fingers. There will be plenty of losses to maon about soon enough.
I'm keeping my tradition of not watching preseason alive this year, too. Hate that crap.

Heard a discussion about why these practices are more important than getting in 3 or 4 series in an exhibition game. To begin with you are playing first team against first team (mostly) in practices. You get to set up the situation you want to work on-ie 30 seconds left, you are on your own 40 down by 2 with one time out-whatever situation you want to work on you get to. And it isn't for only 2 or 3 sets, you get 20-30 plays to run, all of them what you as an offense want to work on. Makes sense that AR/Steichen get more out of that than a shittly exhibition game.

Why does anyone think Irsay decides who is getting playing time in preseason games?

Same people that think Ballard is out there coaching position groups or setting the depth chart. Or that Steichen is negotiation with agents and signing players.

Again, they named him the starter for the regular season, which means little to no action in the preseason games.
