Agree, the laces were irrelevant. He shanked it, it was a bad miss.

It sucks, vinatieri is the elephant in the room that cost us being a 7 and 1 team.

No other kicker in the league would still be starting.

eh, it could be argued that Robbie Gould is having a slightly worse season and he is still starting. Gould is only 13 of 20 on field goals for a 65% make rate. With today's game added into the stats, Vinny is at a 71% make rate. One difference is that the 49'ers as a team are rolling right now. Kicking is an after thought for now.

Both players are struggling compared to their past performance - even just comparing their stats to their 2018 numbers.

It's almost like a Bears forum.

Yep, Sanchez fucked up, but the foot in the turf fucked it first.

My thoughts also! Why, after getting into field goal range, do you just run the ball up the gut 3 times and then try for the field goal, especially this year with Vinnies problems.

Because last week it worked.

AV should probably retire after this year.

Exactly. The end of the Denver game was very similar (except the outcome). Reich explained his rationale for "going conservative" in that situation. He was worried about going backwards and losing yardage. There could be a pass protection issue and the QB is sacked. Or more probable (especially this year), the zebras litter the field with flags on the play and call a penalty and the team loses yardage. Officiating has been so inconsistent this year - once flags are thrown, it is hard to know how they are going to rule on the play. Even with challenges and video review, the calls have been inconsistent.

You want to run the clock down so that the Steelers have insufficient time to get a field goal after the Colts took the lead. If they could have gotten 1 more first down, they could have run the clock down to almost 0 and then AV would kick the winning FG. They were already in AV's range, he just shit the bed. Laces in, laces out, he just shit the bed. It happens, its just that at 46, it's happening a lot and this HAS to be his last year.

Just did some quick math. Hoyer was 17 for 26 totaling 168 yards. He was also sacked 4 times for -34 yards. So, in 30 drop backs, he totaled 134 net yards for an average of 4.6 yards per drop back. Mack averaged 4.2 yards per carry. Draw your own conclusions.

No other kicker has his resume though. If there is a better option I'm all for it. But we are not the only team with kicker woes. Reliable clutch kickers are pretty hard to find.

I agree, but the foot in the grass was the main reason that he shanked it, but was his timing thrown off by the slow snap and the fact that he saw the laces facing him?

But, yes he should've made the kick regardless.
