Well-deserved, and overdue ...... he should have been elected last year, in his first year of eligibility.

Congrats to Freeney!

In other news, Devin Hester over Reggie Wayne is criminal.

Man that is awesome! Listening to Chappy today, said the guy is absolutely revered by the 50 electors. Great for him!

I'm a huge Wayne fan and I think he should be a HOFer, but to be fair, Hester was the best at what he did.

I'm okay with it. The bright spot is that if Andre Johnson made it in, Reggie should be a lock next year.

Nice to see Freeney go in with Peppers though. I thought for sure he would have to wait a year after Peppers was inducted.

That's great news. I'm honestly surprised. Peppers was going to be a guarantee... so having two players at the same position makes it tougher. On top of that, I truly thought people would go by the numbers and put Jared Allen in before him.

It's nice to know the voters actually watched football and remember the week-to-week impact... or at least Chappell did a good job of reminding everyone (he's usually good at putting these HOF guys in perspective for others).

True, but people say his teammate, Patrick Mannely, was the best long-snapper in NFL history. Special teams might need their own category like the executives.

Wayne vs. Johnson is a legitimate contest and I have no issue with anyone that gives the edge to Johnson.

Hester is getting in 90% due to '06 and '07. Probably the other 10% is due to a lesser resurgence in '10 and '11. So we're already talking about a returner vs. a wide receiver in terms of football impact... and on top of that, we're only really talking about 4 seasons.

Hester should be competing against Josh Cribbs in the ST category. Not eating up a space that should go to Wayne.

As much as I think that Reggie Wayne was an all time Colt great, I am not sure I would say he was an NFL great. He was extremely consistent, but I am not sure he was feared by defenses like Harrison was. It is the same thing for Andre Johnson, great player over a long period of time, but I am not sure I think either are really Hall of Fame calibre. I don't think that there was any point in the NFL when anyone thought that Wayne was the best receiver in the league? The year he led the league in yardage, Randy Moss had 23 TD's, as an example.

Glad to see Freeney in though, as I do believe that he was truly feared by offensive co-ordinators throughout his career and at times single handily changed gameplans.

Reggie Wayne was a Top 10 WR in the NFL for over a decade. There was a stretch (I would say 2007-2010) where he was arguably the best WR in the NFL. Comparatively, Devin Hester was a flash in the pan and as a kick/punt returner. It's not even close which one should be in the Hall of Fame and which shouldn't right now, but the voters got it wrong.

To me that is exactly why he isn't a Hall of Fame player, he was a top 10 guy, year in year out for receiving yards, he was never a TD machine, he had a couple of fabulous years in terms of yards, but the Hall of Fame is meant to be the elite of the elite. Even in the years you suggested Wayne was the leagues best, Larry Fitzgerald and Randy Moss (Moss was coming to the end of his career by 2010) were in my opinion close to or possibly better.

Of the three Wayne had the most yards with 5278
Moss 4158
Fitzgerald 5069

But where Wayne was a long way off was in TD's, he only had 32, whereas Moss had 52 and Fitzgerald had 41.

This is not to belittle Wayne in any way, he was an all time great Colt and really good NFL player, just not in my opinion good enough to justify being in the Hall of Fame.

Your argument about Hester over Wayne. Do i think throughout their entire careers that the overall value Wayne brought to the NFL was more than Hester, of course i do. Do i think that Hester is one of the all time greatest return specialists, yeah i do, and hence why i have no issue with him getting in.

If you are going to select Wayne over Hester based on the positional need requirement, there are a lot of offensive linemen that shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame and many more QB's inducted. Which to me would be mad.
