Default The Undefeated Philadelphia Eagles ...... Jeff Saturday's Super Bowl ???

o

OK, it's one thing for a team that probably got shot of emotional adrenaline from their new interim head coach to beat another team that is one of the worst in the NFL (the Las Vegas Raiders) ...... and I'm sure that everybody is walking on air right now after that well-played game yesterday, especially in regard to the offensive line having only their 2nd solid game of the season, coupled with the resurgence of Matt Ryan at quarterback.

However ...... it is quite another thing to play like that against a team that is undefeated, and regarded by many as the best in the NFL.

So, the question is ...... can the Colts rise to the occasion and beat the Eagles, or at least play well in defeat and make the Eagles earn a hard-fought victory ??? Most rational people will say "No." A few dreamers with royal blue sun-glasses will say, "Maybe." Either way, one thing is for sure ...... the brief honeymoon phase for Jeff Saturday will end on Sunday, regardless of the outcome of that game. If the Colts get blown out, then the win over the Raiders will be minimized as one bottom-feeder having beaten another bottom-feeder. And if the Colts win and/or lose a close, well-played game, expectations for the rest of this 2022 season will no longer be apathetically low.

IF the O line comes out and plays to their ability, this team should be able to compete with anyone remaining on the schedule. The D isnt the problem, special teams is ok. The Colts get the run game going, they have a chance.

Jordan Wilkins comes back and played as he had in the past. Gets his nose to the hole, and gets 3-4 yards. The holes were there, all game long. Taylor looked like himself, no contact until he was pass the LOS and got his shoulders squared.

This team is notoriously known for stepping up for teams that should kill them. For whatever reason I worry more about losing to a team like the Raiders than I do a team like the Eagles. Do good teams play down to us for taking us for granted, or do we really fight out of our weight class for what ever reason is puzzling. It has been an anomaly for a few years.

Its because our D is designed to give up all of the underneath garbage but defends the second reaction improvisers well. The QB who tries to extend plays with his legs against us struggles. It actually makes our pass rush relevant, since we usually end up with a sack or simply based on the time to throw factor.
If Mahomes had be disciplined enough to just dump 5 yards passes all game he would have carved us. If Hurts does that, we will lose and lose big.

That game stuck with them, too.

"We are playing the Indianapolis Colts right now. This team is not better than us. They're not even good!"

~Eugene Robinson on the sideline during Super Bowl 32, referencing the Denver Broncos as they're about to upset the Packers.

In 2019, a Colts teams led by Jacoby Brissett at quarterback, lost to a bad Raiders team.

One week later, that same Jacoby Brissett-led Colts team beat the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs ...... on their homefield in Kansas City.

One year earlier in 2018, the Colts, led by their all-world quarterback Andrew Luck, were manhandled by the New York Jets ...... that loss dropped the Colts to 1-5 overall.

After that embarrassingly disastrous loss to the lowly Jets, the Colts won 9 out of their next 10 games to finish the season at 10-6 overall. That streak included wins over the AFC South champion Houston Texans (11-5), the NFC East champion Dallas Cowboys (10-6), and 2 wins over the Tennessee Titans (9-7) which wound up being the difference between the Colts and the Titans making the playoffs.

In that 2019 post-season, the Colts went on the road to Houston and again beat the Texans to advance to the divisional playoff round.

Didn't that 2018 team go like 6 straight games without giving up a sack? How I long for those days.

Yeah, something like that, which is what made Luck retiring crazy ironic since he was sacked the fewest times of anyone in the league in '18.

How many sacks did he have in the 4 previous years. He suffered a lacerated internal organ behind that line
