Philadelphia and Kansas City also tried to pick up Womack via waivers.

Shrader is staying in Indy for now - he signed with the Colts practice squad.

Thoughts on all of this:
Glad to see that we were able to sign Hull, Simpson, Schrader, Treadwell, and especially Bean to the practice squad. Womack looks like a good pickup. Sucks on Witt and agree the Colts likely knew that he was going to hang it up. I wonder if his hip was giving him trouble again and has become a chronic issue. I still don't understand why Bryan made the team much less why he made it through our first waiver claim. Would have liked to have seen us not risk losing Bean. I get that Ehlinger probably gives us a better chance to win as an emergency QB as of today, but how long will that be for? And obviously Bean's upside is through the roof compared to Ehlinger's. Shrader may be kicking in Week 1. Steichen has indicated that Matt Gay is dealing with a groin injury. https://x.com/NateAtkins_/status/1830681278569456012 Quote:

Got to love the Colts med staff + communication on injuries. So now Steichen and Matt Gay say that the kicker had a hernia and underwent surgery. The team is still not ruling him out yet for this week's game, but I would be shocked if he plays based on this new info. https://x.com/mchappell51/status/1831378395034480742 Quote:

I suppose much depends upon how big the hernia was, but in general, I would think if this were an inguinal hernia (if that was the exact diagnosis), I would expect at least 3-4 weeks to get cleared to play but then again.... An abdominal hernia would surely take longer.
That said, using the latest modern procures; that may cut the recovery time down also. Just sayin... Be curious to see just how long he ends up sitting and not exxpecting him back next week or week after. I am soooooo happy we have the backup ready to go. |
