It’s not that Nelson sucks, its that he’s a guard. There are reasons guards don’t get drafted at 6. Nelson pretty much has to get enshrined in Canton to come close to justifying the pick. And I’m all about protecting Luck - that’s why I was pissed that Ballard did nothing in free agency to address the line. Ballard refused to use an asset that was plentiful (cap space) to address the line and instead used one that is scarce (top 10 pick) to do it. In the process he passed on two great LB prospects. Do you think he can sign a pro bowl LB in free agency next year?

But you are thrilled he over paid in the draft? Yes I’m saying it - he should have overpaid in free agency to solve the line issues. That’s what happens in free agency. Especially for 26 yr old pro bowl players. That sounds a hell of a lot better to me than sitting on loads of cap space and using your second most valuable asset on a guard. When is he going to use that cap space and not overpay?

I liked Smith too. I'm a defense guy. But hard to argue with protecting Luck as a priority. He better work out.

My thoughts also. I wanted Chubb, then Smith.

Nelson will be good for the line and help luck a lot, but yeah not exactly how I wanted it to go
