Pierce and the whole offense needs to be getting targets deeper than they currently are. Making a defense have to protect a larger area, puts more strain on them. If they are struggling to make sideline passes, and then only passing 15 yards deep, there is very little space to actually be able to get open and subsequently there is little room to run the ball. Both Pierce and Pittman are good on deep balls, if not making the reception they have drawn a few pass interference penalties.

Pierce doesn't provide the same route running abilities of Pittman on shorter routes though, he just isn't as agile.

Minshew doesn’t throw deep. Pierce is the fifth option when he runs deep routes behind the TE and RBs. He just doesn’t have the arm for it and Pierce if the fastest receiver on the team right now so they default him as the deep threat. Pierce was wide open on his two targets and the passes weren’t even close. Defenses are kinda catching on though because they played 7-8 in the box last game and Pierce was targeted just twice. If teams are going to play 8 in the box you have to make them pay deep. But Minshew was out there running early leaving the pocket, he has little feel for pocket pressure.

Colts rookie cornerback Jaylon Jones this season:

10 receptions allowed on 20 targets for just 86 yards in 184 coverage snaps.

Jones and Marlon Humphrey are the only two cornerbacks in the NFL with over 150 coverage snaps to allow fewer than 100 yards receiving

Jones is a 7th round pick. That’s impressive. There is a 11% chance a 7th round DB becomes a starter.

He and Brents appear to be good finds. 2 for 4 on DB picks is pretty solid. Scott could still become a good player as well. Looks like Rush is doing well elsewhere as well, unfortunately for the Steelers.

They have Rush playing safety don't they? Looks like Darrel Baker had a bounce back game with Tony Brown going down. A 74 grade from pff. Of course with the dline doing so well it makes their job a lot easier.

The article I read said dime and suggested he would probably see more play at CB.

He was sitting back in a FS type read react role I believe. Might be a good fit for him.
