I assume Gilmore wanted to go to a contender. We have a rookie QB coming in and a rebuild going on. He's getting old and running out of time.

I get that, just not why that's Indianapolis' problem.

I have no idea what is going on here but it sure feels like they are trying to make some cap room. Corner backs are hard to find.

What’s likely happening is the Colts are in rebuilding mode. Which is sad because they never seemed to have actually got to winning mode under Ballard.

Gilmore’s more than 30 years old, and he’s under contract for another year. What’s the sense of keeping him around for what will likely be a lost season, only to lose him to free agency? Trade hi, get a draft pick, and use the cap space you carve out to sign a younger piece who’ll still be in his prime in 2 years.
