Don't know about the blocking issue. I thought I heard Brody Elderidge as being touted the best blocker in college, but I don't think that's translated to the the NFL.

As far as statistical expectations ... with Reggie, AC, Hilton and these guys, combined with Luck's ability to spread the ball, find the open receiver ... unlike the article seemed to be, I'm just not concerned at all about the number of catches or yards or TDs for a single given player.
Eldrige was considered a good blocker coming out because he played every position on the OL except tackle.

I'm beginning to think he was a Polian fantasy pet project. A severly undersized athlete he could plug in all along the OL.

Eldrige is very versatile, he just isn't really good at any of the positions he's capable of playing, and he played in the spread.

Dunleavy and BBS are on par with each other. If either were half as good as they thought they would have been hired years ago by a legit company.

Gronkowski ran a 4.68 40 at his Pro Day. Allen ran a 4.89 at the Combine and didn't run at his Pro Day. Allen might play faster than he is timed but Gronkowski appears to be the faster player.

Per ESPN, Gronk ran a 4.75 / 40 ... Where are you getting your number? --- I thought Allen ran a 4.6, but ESPN has that 4.89 number.

Yeesh, that doesn't sound very good; I take my inference back about Allen comparing favorably to Gronk, at least in terms of speed.

His 40 time is listed 4.68. He didn't run at the Combine, just his Pro Day.

For the record, I was able to find this on Fleener's speed:

Quote:
Coby Fleener stole the early spotlight by ripping up the track and testing well throughout his workout. Multiple reports had Fleener running in the mid-4.4s in the forty. ESPN’s Todd McShay had Fleener at 4.45, and so did CBS’ Bruce Feldman.
Mayock’s stopwatch read 4.51, but it’s still a very fast time for a 6-foot-6, 247-pound human being.
“That is flying at 247,” said Mayock. Mayock also reported that Fleener had a 37-inch vertical and broad jump north of 10-feet. “They’re extremely athletic numbers,” Mayock added. “Those are defensive back, wide receiver-type numbers.”
For comparison, Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski ran 4.65 with the wind and 4.73 against the wind at Arizona’s 2010 Pro Day. Gronkowski is the same height as Fleener, and 11 pounds heavier. But Fleener is much faster in a straight line.

Eldridge should be used as a blocking TE that you can pull inside or even as an H back.

We should motion Eldridge all over the damn place to see how the defense is playing us. Have him motion from one side to the other and see how the defense reacts to the change of strength. If they are slow to react, run a lead stretch or toss. If they are too quick to react quickly snap out of the I and run the dive, if they are reacting perfectly just yo-yo back to the original position.

This is true for all TE's, but Eldridge is the only TE who can get down in a 3 point and play fullback. I'm a firm believer in using motion every play, not just from WR's.
