You sound like you are arguing with yourself..... Collins/Painter as QB was not going to be overcome by any coaching staff.... because the rest of the team was bad..... the only one that could have saved last season is a Donkey now...

I see 6 wins next year now.
Going into this, knowing they were getting Luck but expecting a defensive heavy draft I would have said 4 max but starting to be a tough out late in the year. Now I think they'll outscore a couple of the other doormats from last year.

Took them half a season to figure out hey, Curtis Painter is not Manning and we need to change the offense to accomodate Would have taken any coach with half a freakin' brain about 1-2 weeks most, if that long to figure that out Most of us as FANS knew it in the preseason. There were a number of winnable games last year, Cleveland and Pitt in particular, they could have and should have won if they get better coaching and ANY decent QB play. Painter missed a wide open Garcon that could have won the Pitt game. If Luck can just make that play, and heck I could have made that play, they win one more game. Blew a lead at KC. They certainly were beat bad by a number of teams, but a number of others came down to bad coaching and no QB production 5-6 wins next year is doable. The pudnits and fans saying though that they are a 2-4 win team for the next 3 years, and I have heard this from a number of people, are just crazy. It doesn't take that long to be competitive again in the NFL if you have a decent GM. |

It's just a silver lining argument to try and make drafting mainly offensive players easier to swallow. If anything the defense should be better since we have better defensive coaches now and a scheme that isn't a joke. I still would've like to seen them spend more picks on that side of the ball but oh well. |

The fomer O was based on a fewer plays and Manning getting them into the right one. How many teams have a second Manning ready for an injury? They don't and this team put all their eggs in the Manning basket, which now we see as a bad idea. When the coaching staff finally came to their senses and started using a fullback and trying to shorten the game it was WAY TOO LATE. I think the coaching staff just kept hoping Manning was going to come back, and they got themselves backed into a corner. So now they have a team that knows the Manning offense, no Manning and no obvious replacement. They were slow to react, change and make some changes. Pile on injuries to the line, the DB's and it becomes Hurricane Peyton and none of the decision makers survived. So maybe this new admin will not give in to their star and not allow one person to have so much control over the entire offense? I guess we will find out. Pete

They really had the whole preseason to try different things and prepare for this though. Its not like they had no clue Manning would be out an extended period of time. He didn't get hurt in preseason, he was injured and obviously couldn't throw at the beginning of preseason. You'd think at that point, when its obvious he is not playing in preseason and Painter was going to be playing those 4 games, you MIGHT want to try at least something different just in case Manning isn't back for the beginning of the season. They had 4 preseason games to try and do something else and did nothing. Just horrible coaching and preparation all around. I don't expect the team to be as dependent on Luck for a number of reason. ONe, Luck is a different personality than Manning and will not demand the control over the offense that Manning did. Two, they are going to be more balanced in run vs. pass on offense. Three, I think they will actually attempt to build a D so they don't have to score 25+ a game to win every time. |
