Yeah, if you look strictly at the back-up QB's who were intentionally signed to be back-up QB's (for example, I am not counting Trey Lance who was drafted 3rd overall in the 2021 draft and has a high salary from his draft slot), there are only two contracts at $7M or higher: Jacoby Brissett - $8M on a 1 year contract (big step-up from the previous season at $4.65M) Taylor Heinicke - $7M AAV via a two year, $14M contract After those two contracts, there is a gap and then there are a few in the $5M AAV range. And you could say that Washington and Atlanta paid a premium for Brissett and Heinicke because they were planning to use somewhat unheralded, unproven, young QB's - Sam Howell had only played one game as a rookie and Desmond Ridder only played in 4 games. Both of those teams wanted a decent back-up in case they had to pull the plug on the young QB's. Last edited by AlwaysSunnyinIndy; 12-09-2023 at 10:40 PM. |
