And to address Chromeburn’s comment, yes, in retrospect of course it would have been nice to draft Metcalf instead. At the time, I believe Metcalf was considered pretty raw and potentially too muscle-bound to be as flexible as a WR needs to be, but obviously that appears to be wrong. That one is on Ballard and every other GM who didn’t pick him I guess. I will say that when healthy, Campbell has been every bit the explosive receiver that was projected when he was drafted, so it’s not like we took a talentless player instead. Just a different type of receiver, and one who unfortunately appears to be more injury prone than advertised. |

In watching Taylor run, I believe that Rathman has already fixed the fumbling problems. You can see that Taylor wraps up the ball with 2 hands when he senses contact.

I’d also like to point out that Blackmon looks to be the starting safety going forward. That leaves us with a rookie coming off an ACL tear and a second year guy on the back end. That, combined with our mediocre cornerback depth, leaves me a bit concerned.
I don’t agree that losing Hooker is a plus. It most certainly is not. That’s dumb. He may not be what we thought he was gonna be, but he’s an experienced starter. Losing him hurts. Blackmon had better be ready. He’s gonna get tested. A lot. |

But Hooker certainly isn't a bad player either!
Feel sorry for the guy, he is screwed in terms of his options come next season and getting a decent contract. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Ballard resigned him to a mid level contract for 3 years, but also if we just let him walk and let him see what he might get in free agency. By all accounts he was having a great training camp, so maybe Ballard was impressed by his attitude towards not getting the 5th year on his rookie contract and gives him a reasonable contract offer. |

Whilst discussing the safety position, when looking at the snap numbers, i was a little surprised to see how few snaps Wilson took. Once Hooker went down i thought he would have got more snaps than Blackmon as it was Blackmon's first game.
We actually had a nice set of safeties with Hooker, Willis, Blackmon, Odom and Wilson. Still don't mind the remaining 4, Willis looks to be a stud, Blackmon had a great first game, Wilson has a lot of quality starting experience and Odom has performed admirably when called upon. |
