Default A dozen positives from camp

1) Starting with the most obviously important, it looks like Daniel Jones is close to 100%.
2) Anthony Richardson is beginning to look like a real, live NFL Quarterback. In the long term, this probably doesn’t help the Colts. But, it does improve the chances of winning in case Jones misses time, and it adds value to the Richardson brand, making him a more valuable trade chip and driving up his value in free agency, which might net the team as much as a 3rd round draft pick in 2027.
3) At the very least, Seth McGowan’s emergence at Running Back gives them a chance to ease back on Jonathan Taylor’s workload.
4) A hoary adage holds that looks can be deceiving, and Will Mallory could turn out to be the poster child for that bromide. But, if he’s able to fulfill his potential, he adds a very nice element to the Tight End room.
5) Granting that it’s been a small sample size, Keenan Allen has shown signs that he’s capable of being a reliable weapon opposite Alec Pierce. Sometimes, you need someone who can give you a big time strike 30 yards downfield. Sometimes, you need Mr reliable, the guy who gets open and churns out first guys. Keenan Allen is that guy.
6) Last year, Laiatu Latu gave us glimmers of potential; PFF credited him with 11 sacks, and the hope is that he emerges into something resembling a legit force off the edge. We haven’t had a chance to see him much in the preseason, but reports from virtually every practice session have lauded his contribution. That’s what the British army used to call being mentioned in the dispatches.
7) While neither Gumbs nor Curry are expected to make an immediate contribution, they both have flashed intriguing hints of potential.
8) Like Daniel Jones, Deforest Buckner seems to be putting questions about his health to rest.
9) While injuries and such have held back CJ Allen, Jaylon Carlies has capitalized, stayed healthy, and injected himself into the conversation at Linebacker.
10) Bryce the butcher looks like a keeper.
11) At Safety, Haulcy looks like everything we expected when we drafted him, and Hunter Wohler has been looking good as well. Combine them with an exceptional set of Corners, and Lou Anarumo is gifted with immense flexibility in employing his front seven.
12) And, speaking of Corner, Justin Walley seems poised to give the Colts a seamless transition from Kenny Moore.

All good points and reason for hope this year despite some obvious concerns.

o

The Colts are 25th overall out of 32 NFL teams.

You can read the entire article if you'd like ...... I'm only going to post the Colts' portion.

NFL Hope-O-Meter 2026 Results ..... the Rams Fans are Feeling Good ..... Browns Backers ??? Not as Much

(By Adam Coleman)

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS: ) 41.9 Percent Optimism

******************************************

Pessimist l Chris Ballard is the Jeff Fisher of GM's ...... his inability to find an edge-rusher continues to haunt this team.

Pessimist l I feel that Daniel Jones was a flash-in-the-pan last year ...... the secondary promises to be bad ...... the GM is surely on his way out ...... this is a bad combination ...... 5 wins.

Optimist l A 17-game rerun of the first half of last season.

Optimist l A Colts haiku ...... gallop time is now ...... through the wide-open meadow ...... AFC South champs.

Optimist l I have season tickets ...... I'm always optimistic.

It doesn’t surprise me ro learn that Steve from Fort Wayne is afraid to leave home lest some errant chunk of space debris hurtles to earth and punches his ticket to the pearly gates. You could gift some people a magnum of Dom Perignon, and they’d complain that they didn’t get a tin of caviar to go with it.
