Off of the top of my head, the first thing that comes to mind is the 1993 Miami Dolphins. Those 1993 Dolphins started the season at 9-2, then went 0-5 down the stretch to finish at 9-7 ...... they only had to win one of those final 5 games to secure a playoff berth, and they failed to. The nadir of that season for the Dolphins came on Thanksgiving Day, when Leon Lett handed them a win in the final seconds of the 4th quarter over the defending world champion Dallas Cowboys. That win made the Dolphins 9-2 on the season, while the Cowboys dropped to 7-4. After that game the Dolphins lost every game (0-5), and the Cowboys won every game (8-0, including the post-season) to repeat as world champions. *************************************************************** Other similar collapses that immediately come to mind are the 1974 Patriots who started at 5-0 and finished at 7-7, and the 1976 49ers who started at 6-0 and finished at 8-6 ...... strangely enough, Jim Plunkett was the starting quarterback for both of those teams. Lastly, in Dan Fouts' final season, the 1987 Chargers started at 8-1 and finished at 8-7. o
