Oh so true. The middle of the pocket is like a perfectly formed half circle to step into with comfort right now which just sucks!

I agree he made some nice throws and played ok. He will always make some nice throws and play ok and we will continue to be a .500ish team. When the game is on the line, when you need that drive to take the lead there are some QBs you have confidence will find a way, find the will to make that drive and win. Jones, in my opinion, will never be that QB. Unfortunately, we will be playing QBs that can and will do that if we ever want to go deep into the playoffs. While he may not be the problem, he isn't the answer either.

I would tend to agree, however we have 6 years of history that says this is who he is, a decent QB who can't elevate when you need it You can probably win with him but most likely not because of him.

I like DJ, he's pretty good. Not elite like some here have rated him, but he's not really the problem. He's not really the solution either. I said this several weeks ago. Don't sign him to a long term contract. Not yet. Franchise him and make him prove he's worth the risk. I've heard it said that this is the time of the year to seperate the contenders from the pretenders. Which one will the Colts be?

Jim Plunkett was thought of as a "loser" after 7 seasons of futility while QB-ing bad teams on the New England Patriots and the San Francisco 49ers from 1971 through 1977. After being out of football for 2 seasons, he came back with the Raiders and resurrected his career behind one of the best offensive lines in the history of professional football. He won a Super Bowl in 1980, won another Super Bowl in 1983, and led the Raiders to an 8-1 record in 1982 before they were upset by the Jets in the 2nd round of the playoffs. Plunkett's record as a starter with the Patriots and the 49ers between 1971 and 1977 was 34-53. Plunkett's record as a starter with the Raiders between 1980 and 1984 was 34-12. Archie Manning was a quarterback who was highly criticized as an underachiever during his playing days because of his team's futility when he was a starting QB between 1971 and 1981 ...... but historians now realize that those critiques of Manning, who played on terrible teams with awful offensive lines and very bad defenses, were inaccurate. If Archie Manning had been playing for the Steelers or the Raiders throughout the 1970's instead of the New Orleans Saints, he very likely would have had as much success as Terry Bradshaw, Darryl Lamonica, and Ken Stabler did when they were taking snaps behind the center for those respective teams ...... and you can take it to the bank that Terry Bradshaw and Ken Stabler would not be in the Hall-of-Fame today if they had been playing for the New Orleans Saints in those days. The Colts were 8-2 this season before Daniel Jones hurt his leg, and he was ranked #4 in the NFL in passer rating at that point. They lost their last 2 games by a very close margin while his mobility, which is a big part of his game for exponential reasons, was severely hampered. Saying that Jones is who he is based on his 6 seasons playing with bad New York Giants teams is as faulty as saying that Jim Plunket was an underachieving loser for 7 seasons while playing for the Patriots and the 49ers before he was scooped up and given a new lease on life by the Raiders. o

He is surrounded with elite talent at pretty much every position, yet he still seems very shaky a lot of the time. Just imagine what Mahomes would do with that OLine, JT at running back, and that collection of receivers. He’d probably go undefeated. In my opinion, Jones holds this offense back as much as he adds to it, especially now that he can’t move. Our problem is that we’re grading him against the last two years of Anthony Richardson, which would make anyone look good. |
