(vs. 49ers, 10/24) 1) ) The Colts' defense gave up a touchdown on a disastrous opening drive of the game. 2) ) The Colts' offense fumbled the ball away deep in their own territory on their first play from scrimmage immediately after that opening drive touchdown. In danger of going down by a score of 13-0, the defense bore down and held the 49ers to a field goal to minimize the damage ...... down by a score of 9-0 only 7 minutes into the game, the Colts outscored the 49ers 30-9 the rest of the way to give them a desperately-needed 2nd consecutive win which kept them within striking distance of the 1st-place Titans. o

I would add a third failure that might have broken the Colts (especially in light of the collapse two weeks ago at Baltimore). With 14:18 left in the game, and San Fran down by one score (20-12), they slashed through Indy's defense to the tune of 70 yards in three plays for a touchdown to set up a potential tying two-point conversion. That conversion was the climax of the game, and after stopping it, the drives went Indy FG, 49ers Intercepted, Indy TD, 49ers Intercepted, Indy punt, 49ers sacked, end of game. If that conversion is successful, well, it may not have just been the fans having nightmares about a repeat from 13 days prior. Instead, they refused to be broken, and they won going away. |

Did anyone ever explain why the Colts did not get a safety on the punt? I know what the refs said, but was that really a muff?

That’s still a goddam safety what a crock of shit, so if your a returner just soccer kick it into the end zone for a touchback every time if it’s close

That's what I was thinking, whats to stop returners from fielding punts inside the 10 and then booting it into the end zone for a touchback to prevent putting the offense into a bad spot?
