[Colts And Orioles]

ESPN's NFL Power Index is different than their Power Ranking ...... and after looking at it, I believe that it may be a more accurate indicator of where teams are at than their Power Rankings.

The Kansas City Chiefs, with a record of 5-4, are ranked #1 ...... and I am OK with that. I've been saying that I believe that the Colts' biggest potential obstacle in the AFC playoffs this year are the Chiefs, and I hope that we won't have to play them until the conference championship game (if at all.)


There are more interesting tidbits, especially when comparing them to the Power Rankings ...... for example, the Power Index has the 3-5 Baltimore Ravens at #8, while the Power Rankings has that same team at # 19. ) ...... ) and the Carolina Panthers, with a 5-4 overall record and coming off of a big win over the Green Bay Packers on their homefield in eastern Wisconsin, are ranked #25 in the Power Index.

I love seeing it, but it seems unreal still. Sauce makes it feel more likely, but the fact he is also been out the last 2 weeks on concussion protocol and Ward is too, is a bit concerning.

Yea, they are at the end of a brutal 6 week stretch before we dive into some division games. Statement game for us coming off our bye.

We do, but my post (and my concern) is strictly in regard to the playoffs. ...... that's why I agree with the Power Index's ranking of the 5-4 Chiefs as the #1 team in the NFL.

I'm not especially concerned with the regular-season games right now, even the one with the Chiefs. My only concern about the regular season right now would be for the Colts to avoid taking a nosedive, and finishing at 10-7 or 9-8 ...... as long as the Colts finish the regular season at least 11-6 or better, they should win the AFC South division and be set up fairly well for the post-season.

So, if the Colts can avoid playing the Chiefs at least until the AFC Championship game (if at all), that would be beneficial in my eyes.

Of particular note is Jones' ability to thrive when under pressure. While the Colts boast one of the best offensive lines in the NFL, Jones has still been unflappable at those times when he is pressured. His 55.7% completion rate when under pressure is the second best in the NFL through eight weeks.


Second-Half Storyline: l Can Sauce Gardner help transform the defense? The Colts stunned the league on Tuesday by shipping two first-round picks and receiver Adonai Mitchell to the New York Jets for the two-time All-Pro cornerback. His arrival combined with the expected return of starting cornerback Charvarius Ward in the coming weeks could give the Colts one of the NFL's elite defensive backfields. With slot cornerback Kenny Moore II roaming the middle of the field and with offseason $60 million signing Cam Bynum at free safety, the Colts have invested a boatload of cash into the unit. Fantasy Nugget: l Even though RB Jonathan Taylor is coming off a game in which he scored a season-low 7.7 fantasy points against the Steelers -- after posting 23 or more in each of the four previous games -- it's important for managers to note that the Colts' upcoming schedule gets much tougher. Still, Indianapolis' offensive line ranks third in run block win rate, and Taylor is talented enough to remain productive in difficult matchups. l (Eric Moody)

I agree. We always seem to have their number during the regular season, winning the 2 games that included PM as their qb but lost the 2019 playoffs with him.

And strangely enough, that 2018 Colts team that had Andrew Luck at quarterback had a better chance at beating Mahomes' Chiefs than either of the 2019 or 2022 teams did. The 2019 Colts had Jacoby Brissett at quarterback, and the 2022 team had the worst Colts offensive line in recent memory ...... flukes happen in the regular season all the time, but when push comes to shove in the post-season, Patrick Mahomes' Chiefs have been the cream of the crop. They have made if to the AFC Championship game for 7 straight seasons, from 2018 through 2024 ...... in the history of professional football (1920 through the Present) only Otto Graham's Cleveland Browns had a superior run. Graham's Browns made it to the League/World Championship game for 10 straight seasons from 1946 through 1955, winning 7 out of those 10 title games.
