Over the first quarter of the season, the Colts have had as many as a dozen projected starters sitting on the bench, nursing injuries.

Richardson
Taylor
Woods
Kelly
Fries
Paye
Ebukam
Lewis
Buckner
Stewart
Brents
Moore

In addition, Pittman has a bad back, Downs a toe, and Braden Smith is playing on one leg.

And yet, through all that adversity, they’ve lost 3 games by a total of 11 points.

I know that the default, rote response is next man up, but… Starters are starters for a reason, and Pro Bowlers like Taylor, Moore, and Buckner can’t be replaced by the likes of Taven Bryan, Trey Sermon, and Chris Lammons. The bottom line is that we can’t know just how good a team that Chris Ballard has put together until plaers are back on the field and not sitting in a whirlpool, communing with the training staff.

If the Colts can get healthy ...... the three aforementioned players are expected back soon ...... maybe Indianapolis can reach its ceiling this season. The upcoming stretch with the Texans, the Bills, the Vikings, and the Lions will probably tell the story.

Really interesting to look at the season to this point and reflect. We aren't a very GOOD football team. However, I believe right now, we would be the 7th seed- which is somewhat crazy to think about.

I do hate Ballard, but when you look at it from a wide lens, you can't ignore some positive things.

All of our games have been single possession games- so despite the crazy injury level, we compete no matter who is out there.

Flacco- terrific signing, the perfect professional to fill and perform when needed

OL- We very seldom say Rainman's name- that's a good damn thing. We've seen injury after injury and the guys that fill in appear to get the job done.

The secondary, as fucked up as we often are back there, some of the low end dudes have shown the ability to again, fill in as necessary without completely shitting the bed.

Unlike Frank, I think Steichen has developed a culture where guys want to play for him and as a result we are capable of winning or at the least hanging with anyone in the league. After Miami yes it is going to be a tough slog, but if we can just get a good healthy stretch from AR and JT this team should be right there battling for a playoff spot as the season closes.

I would still like to see both Ballard and Bradley sent packing after the season unless we somehow pull together a serious playoff run.

Bradley can go as soon as the season ends, if not on the bye week. Ballard has assembled a lot of talent. I think a different DC would improve our outlook for this team tremendously.

(vs. DOLPHINS, 10/20)

Anthony Richardson WILL play.

Jonathan Taylor WILL NOT play.

I'll probably show up drunk and buy $10 beers for everyone surrounding me while they talk shit.

More significantly, Jim was Bert Jones' water-boy in 1975, when he was 16 years-old.

That 1975 team was Jim's favorite Colts team ever.
