Vanilla defense
https://www.stampedeblue.com/2017/6/...season?ref=yfp
I don't know what to make of this. I don't really recall a lot of complex schemes or opponent specific game plans last year to account for the "complexity" that Monachino is referencing. I recall a lot of injuries and rotating starters from game to game, poor tackling, inability to rush the passer.......not sure what the complexity is but nevertheless the flavor for the coming season is strictly vanilla. |

it could be possible that they were calling for some complex things but the players were so bad they could never execute it, so you never realized it was supposed to be something exotic. Or it could be that Pagano and company can't teach these schemes, which is a far more serious issue.

More on the new and improved defense......
http://www.espn.com/blog/indianapoli...-helps-defense “You’re always scared to death, but at the same time if you don’t tackle, it’s hard to get good at tackling,” Pagano said. “ uh......no shit Sherlock. |

I agree but think it's an even bigger reflection of him just not being very bright. It seems his whole risk/reward evaluations are just way off. On the one hand he makes very risky decisions that have a very low probability of success (ex: fake punt against Patriots). On the other, he is cowardly conservative (no real tackling during training camp) even though there's the opportunity to mitigate injury risk and there's virtually 100 percent certainty that players will Actually Improve when they practice what they need to do during game time before they actually get to game time. SMH.....I believe that Ballard is smart enough to realize that Pagano is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Can't imagine he's back even if we win the South. |

Chuck's statement is just appalling. It's the statement of a concerned mother whose son is playing Pop Warner...not an NFL head coach. It's been reported recently that Chuck uses his 'coach speach' on purpose, knowing that it irritates the media. If his statement about tackling is any indication of what lies beneath, he really needs to just stick with the Paganoisms. Can anyone imagine Belichick saying that he's "scared to death" of tackling in practice? Good God...
