While I have a ton of issues with SS (his tendacy to revert to the pass, his terrible understanding of trick play vs just run the dang ball in short yardage situations and some terrible clock management skills), firing him right now would be a terrible idea from CIG and Ballard.
Accountability has to start at the top but you do not fire you coach when you are, technically, still playoff eligable.
Yes, we have lost 4 our of our last 5 after starting 7-1 but that still puts us in reach of hitting the playoffs if we can win some of our last games.
Now, are we going to win them? It looks unlikely but, hey, a former 6th round QB picked from the Midwest also got his chance after seeing the starter go down for the count in mid-season and took his team to greatness. In college:
TB = 29 games / 61.9% / 4,773 yards / 30 TD / 17 INT
RL = 37 games / 63.8% / 7,311 yards / 45 TD / 18 INT
(plus RL had 2,130 rush yards with 36 rush TDs)
Now, am I saying that RL = TB ? Of course not but no one, and I mean NO ONE, thought TB would turn out being what he became based on his college resume. NO ONE.
Just like no one predicts that RL will become a franchise QB either.
I predict that Rivers will stay on the Practice Squad and is here as a much more hands on-the-field mentor/coach for Leonard in order to not jepordize his time line for the HoF.
I think Leonard is our QB for the rest of the season and the Colts want to see what they got.
