However, Houston had the 2nd pick. There was no way they were going to pass on taking what they believed was a franchise quarterback by trading that pick to a division rival. That was never going to happen, and if it did, it would have cost so much that it wouldn’t have been worth it.

Especially since, as it turns out, Stroud isn’t really a franchise quarterback. He’ll, they played just as well with Davis Mills.

I’ve seen this argument before, that Ballard should have given whatever it took to get Stroud. But this isn’t Madden. Houston was never going to trade that pick. And neither was Carolina going to trade the first pick, considering the fact that they traded into that spot.

Correct ...... for those who think that the Colts paid a high price in terms of mortgaging their future in the trade for Sauce Gardner, then in order to have acquired the rights to CJ Stroud from a division rival, the Colts may have had to put up a sign in front of Lucas Oil Stadium reading "We may not be open for business between about 2028 and 2033 if CJ Stroud isn't the next Dan Marino or John Elway."
