Yeah, and really we should've just been awarded the first down.
If we were in the situation we've been in for years going back to sub-prime Vinatieri, I'd feel different. Or if Gay gets a shot and ends up shorting some of these long kicks, I'd feel different.
But he's boomed accurate, mid-50's kicks with plenty of extra room. I trust Steichen to perform whatever calculus, in the context of a given game, and decide if a long FG is any more risky than going for a 4th down near mid-field.
I wouldn't think freak Myles Garrett blocking the kick is typically part of that equation (especially since even he needed assistance).
