INDIANAPOLIS — The Colts are reportedly bringing back another key member of their special teams, making sure new special teams coordinator Brian Mason has experienced pieces to deploy in his first season in the NFL.

Indianapolis is re-signing veteran gunner Tony Brown to a one-year deal worth up to $1.2 million that includes $500,000 guaranteed, according to a report by ESPN.

Brown, a cornerback, played just nine snaps on defense, coming away with one sack.

Indianapolis Colts cornerback Tony Brown (38) and Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Eric Johnson II (93) celebrate a fumble recovery Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, during a game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

But he was valuable on special teams, playing 303 snaps and making six tackles while lining up as the gunner opposite wide receiver Ashton Dulin, as well as taking the primary role of gunner when Dulin was out with a foot injury.

Brown’s signing likely doesn’t affect the team’s plans to replenish the depth at cornerback, considering how little he played defensively last season.

Indianapolis still has a significant need at the position after trading veteran Stephon Gilmore (1,063 snaps) to the Cowboys for a fifth-round pick and letting fellow veteran Brandon Facyson (455 snaps) sign with the Raiders.

With those two players headed out of Indianapolis, the Colts have just three cornerbacks who saw significant playing time on defense last season — Kenny Moore II (773), Isaiah Rodgers (430) and Dallis Flowers (174).
