Carr's contract is similar to Ryan's and if he gets hurt, his contract is guaranteed next year. His salary of $32.9 Million for next season and $7.5 Million of his 2024 salary become guaranteed if he gets hurt.

All things considered, that's actually a good reason for benching him ...... perhaps the Raiders were too overly-generous in the first place in handing out a huge contract like that for a QB on the other side of his 30th birthday, but as it stands now it would be foolish for the Raiders not to bench him because of the surrounding circumstances that you alluded to in regard to his contract, and the fact that with a record of 6-9 and a head-on-loss to the Steelers, the Raiders have virtually no chance to make the playoffs.
Mark Davis is an asshole, and his late father was a scuzzball ...... but in this particular situation, benching Carr was the right move, whether it was decided by Dave Ziegler, Sandra Douglass Morgan, Marc Davis, or all 3 of them combined.
