If anything, I think that perhaps they could have run a timing route on the sidelines with Wentz immediately throwing a looping ball to the sidelines after getting the snap from center and hoping that the wide receiver could haul it in before stepping out of bounds.

You can’t do that and a player can call themselves down and call a timeout.

An out route takes longer and then you also risk interception bc they know you want to get out of bounds.
