That type of stuff is not unusual at all in the NFL.
In 2008, the Colts beat the Chargers on their home-field
AND they also had a much better overall record than them (the Colts were 12-4, and the Chargers were 8-8), and they still played their subsequent playoff game in San Diego because the Chargers won their division.
In 2010, the Saints went 11-5 and had to play their 1st-round playoff game in Seattle because the 7-9 Seahawks won their division.
Those are just 2 of countless examples of those types of happenings since the advent of the 16-game schedule in 1978.
