It's a loss that hurts after clawing their way back into it.
On the plus side there were a lot of good things going on offensively.
I think Brisset showed a lot, this team can win with him. Mack really
stepped it up in the second half. Cain and Funchess look like they are
going to be big contributors. Hilton seems to have a comfort level
with Brisset unlike the first time around. Hines and Campbel are going to
be valuable weapons. The offensive line looked like last years bunch which
was pretty damned good.
On the bad side just an epic special teams meltdown. Obviously Adam V was
the prime culprit missing 2 field goals and a PAT-unacceptable. But there was
a lot more. A penalty on SD's field goal that allowed them to get a TD. A blocked punt that allowed SD to score 3. The opening kickoff was returned to
the 40 which allowed SD to control field position for a full quarter. I'd hate to
be the ST coach walking into Franks office this Monday.
Defensively I think the unit showed they are still a couple of players away
from being a top notch unit. Miles ahead of where they were when Ballard
took over but still a ways to go.
A couple of players/plays that stuck: Ebron, you have to make that play.
Just a dumbass penalty by Houston negating Turays sack on SDs first
drive of the second half. What a thing of beauty Hookers int was.
As much as the loss hurts I came away feeling better about the team than I
thought I would. It's just one game in but I think they can win and win big
with Brisset. That has positive implications for this season and beyond.
Sorry for the long post, haven't been here much lately.
