Was that the impression anyone here was left with? My overwhelming impression is that of him following Big Q into the 3-gap? (I'm not completely fluent with the terminology). But aside from a few runs that he busted outside, I thought he got most of his yardage between the tackles.

Maybe I'm just still buzzing from that double-juke run he had. I echo others here who have called it the best run of his career. Just Barry Sanders-esque.
If he followed Nelson, they were likely C gap runs, which is and/or usually takes a RB to the perimeter. Lots of Mack's runs, especially the big ones, broke toward the sidelines or well outside of the hashes.
