Can Matt Goncalves make the leap?

Personally, his 2025 performances left me feeling meh. He allowed 34 Quarterback pressures and finished towards the bottom in both pash and rush block win rates. He struggled with defenders who set up on his shoulder and had trouble operating in the phone booth.

Part of that was the impact of moving inside to Guard. It’s an entirely different position, and requires different skills. There are many a Tackle who struggles with the move.

To his credit, he didn’t spend the offseason on a beach, sipping Mai Tai’s. He spent the offseason in Chicago, working with Olin Kreutz, honing his skills and technique. He’s also added 10 pounds of muscle, which should allow him to anchor better against interior pass rushers and get more movement in the run game.

I hope he does make the leap. But, his struggles had to play a role in the selection of Jalen Farmer.

He is doing exactly what people who make the leap do. I am betting he will.

Maybe, but depth behind the starters consisted of Josh Sills, Dalton Tucker and LaDarius somebody.
