Preseason Finale vs. the Bungles

Did anyone else watch the game today? I'm a bit hungover, so I turned on the game and half watched/half dozed on the couch. Even though it was all our backups and mainly 3rd/4th stringers vs. theirs, it was fun to see us beat them down for a change.

Some of my take aways (obviously taken w/ a bit of a grain of salt):

- Leonard looked really good.
- Bean looked good in the 3rd quarter, but then he started to get pretty careless with his throws in the 4th. He threw 1 Wentzesque pick (which he then stripped the Bungles DL and we got the ball back). He also threw another pass downfield into triple coverage that should have been picked. He got hurt too, but looks like he was back in to take a knee on the last possession so guessing it was nothing serious.
- Laquon Treadwell looked really good. If he can play special teams it might be worth keeping him on the roster. At the very least I hope we can sign him to our PS.
- Coleman Owen looked really good as well just like he has in the prior 2 games. Hoping we can sign him to the PS as well.
- Nate Noel and Ulysses Bentley IV both looked really good as well. Hopefully we get both on our PS. We might keep 1 of the 2 on the 53 if either can play ST since Goodson will be out for awhile.
- Daniel Scott had a nice pick 6 in the 1st quarter. With Wohler being hurt he was probably already set to make the roster, but his play today may have cemented that.
- As far as I know Brents didn't get hurt.
- Goncalves was our only non-ST starter to play, which is pretty interesting. Guessing the coaching staff thought he needed the additional reps?
- Giddens played the first 2 series, which I was suprised to see. He looked decent and had 22 yards on 6 carries.
- Schrader looked good. Hit from from 40 and 44 no problem.

I watched a few plays here and here. Hard to get excited about a JV-JV game.

Hard to read anything into it but man Leonard does look good

No doubt, and normally I would have been out doing something productive like yard work or errands. But since I was feeling not so chipper I decided to lay down on the couch w/ the game on. Glad I turned it on b/c it was fun to watch us curb stomp them, even if it was both our JV teams playing.

Yeah he did! That 59 yard TD pass to Treadwell is the most well executed pass play I've seen from the Colts in a long time. For those who missed it:

I didn't watch, but Goncalves is interesting and warranted if he needs more looks in pass pro as a guard.

Curious how long he and Brents were in there.

Maybe (big maybe) he can develop into a solid starter, but it was against scrubs on a team whose starting defense is one of the worst in the league. Definitely a promising start, but he is also a project, and not going to beat out Jones, at least this year.

A quick Google AI search says that Goncalves and Brents played 15 and 22 snaps respectively. So if correct then that would be the first 2 series for Goncalves and 4 for Downs.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that Leonard will be our starter anytime soon. At least I'm certainly not. I'm just giving credit where credit is due, b/c he played great. Granted it was against backups on a presumably bad D, but you have to remember he was playing with backups as well.

And speaking of playing great Treadwell was awesome yesterday. Would love to see us find a way to keep him, but realistically speaking I'm sure he'll get caught up in a numbers game and played well enough to be signed to the 53 on another team.

Yeah, Leonard was impressive. Hell of a lot better than Bean.

Treadwell is a guy who always seems to make plays when he’s in there but can never really stick for whatever reason. He’s a good guy to have around as a backup.

Agree, but unless we keep 7 WRs we're going to have to release him. So unless we have a surprise cut the only way we keep him is if we're able to sign him to the PS, but after the day he had yesterday I highly doubt that no one picks him up.

If a team's WR room has been decimated by injuries, yeah, some team could pick him up. But I don't see many teams rushing to sign him to their active roster...at least not at the beginning of the season. I think most would rather let him sign back with the Colts practice squad (assuming he wants to sign with the Colts practice squad and not another team's PS) and if injuries happen later, any team could always poach him from the practice squad if he is still there.
