PFT ( Florioisadick) is reporting that Tolzien will be the starting QB Thursday, kind of odd that Clappy McWoodchopper is using his opening day starter with the backups, isn't it ?

Naw. The "1s" will play a series or two and then give way to the depth guys. Week 4 of preseason is typically that way.

This is just Clappy's way of telling the team that he will not do what the previous coaching regime did and be caught with his pants down when his star QB cannot play. HE has a veteran backup QB that will save the day; no unproven youth for HIM.

It is the "safe" move even if it may not give us the best chances of winning a game. It is hard to criticize him for the move and that is his primary motivation right now. Now winning games but keeping his job.
