Chasing the Titans ...... 2 Extreme Examples of Our Division Rival

o

Since Derrick Henry went down with an injury, 2 of the 3 Titans' games have been extreme.

1) ) Playing on the road in southern California, the Titans SOUNDLY beat one of the best teams in the NFL (the 7-1 Rams.) The score of the game was 28-9 before the Rams added a cosmetic touchdown with 24 seconds left to play in the 4th quarter.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/boxscore/_/gameId/401326463

2) ) One of the worst teams in the NFL ...... the Deshaun Watson-less Houston Texans ...... went to the Titans' homefield in central Tennessee and beat them by a score of 22-13.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/boxscore/_/gameId/401326488

The Titans have showed that they are capable of playing like an elite team without Derrick Henry ...... but they have also shown that they are capable of crapping their pants in the worst way against a horrible team who hasn't had their best player (Deshaun Watson) for the entire season.

So, how will the Derrick Henry-less Titans fare for the remainder of the 2021 season without him ??? Your guess is as good as mine.

(TITANS vs. PATRIOTS, 11/28)

The Titans were hammered by the Patriots this afternoon ...... even though the Colts lost a heart-breaker to the Buccaneers today, all hope for a division title is not necessarily lost.

The Titans' decisive win over an excellent Rams team on their home-field in southern California (without Derrick Henry) may have been an anomaly ...... and that is obviously what Colts fans are hoping for.

I can't see the Titans losing more than 3 of their remaining games. We are playing for a Wildcard spot

The Colts' win over the Patriots combined with the Titans' loss to the Steelers have made things interesting in the AFC South.

Yes it has. I didn't think the Tacks would fall off that much. I hope we get them the fist game in the playoffs

Before I clicked on this article, the caption underneath the ESPN News photo read, ) Is the AFC South Still Up for Grabs ???

3) ) Tennessee Titans (9-5)
FPI chances to make playoffs: 97%
FPI chances to win division: 91%
Current projected first-round match-up: vs. Chargers

What an enormous swing the Titans went through this weekend. A win in Pittsburgh would have put them atop the AFC with three weeks left in the season and given them a 51% chance to win home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, per ESPN's FPI. But now both the Chiefs and Patriots are in better position, leaving Tennessee at just 15% to finish at No. 1. Sunday's loss also delayed the Titans' chance to clinch the division. They're still prohibitive favorites to win the AFC South, but it didn't happen in Week 15. They could clinch it in Week 16 with a win over the 49ers and a Colts loss to the Cardinals.

Remaining schedule: vs. 49ers, vs. Dolphins, at Texans

5) ) Indianapolis Colts (8-6)
FPI chances to make playoffs: 82%
FPI chances to win division: 9%
Current projected first-round match-up: at Bengals

The Colts pulled off a huge win Saturday night, both qualitatively and quantitatively, and their good fortune continued Sunday. The Titans' loss to the Steelers means the Colts are still in the AFC South race. A division title is still a long shot -- ESPN's FPI gives the Colts a 9% chance to do it -- but at least they are not eliminated from it at this point. Regardless, the Colts should be riding high. Their win Saturday snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Patriots, and had they lost Saturday, the Colts' playoff chances would have dropped to 42%. Instead, they have an 82% chance to get in, and they even jumped the Chargers in the AFC standings.

Remaining schedule: at Cardinals, vs. Raiders, at Jaguars

The Colts' dreams of catching and passing the Titans took a major hit when Jimmy Garoppolo pissed away his team's game against the Titans.

Now it's all about taking care of business on the field, which would (at the very least) ensure the Colts of a Wildcard playoff berth.

2) ) Tennessee Titans (10-5)

FPI chances to make playoffs: 99%
FPI chances to win division: 94%
Current projected first-round matchup: vs. Ravens

The Titans had lost three of their past four games before Thursday night's comeback victory over the 49ers. The win moved them up one spot in the AFC standings, and they remained there Sunday after the Bills beat the Patriots. The Titans missed a chance to clinch the AFC South on Saturday, when the Colts beat the Cardinals, but they can clinch in Week 17 with a win over the Dolphins or a Colts loss to the Raiders. Even if they lose to the Dolphins, the Titans can clinch a playoff spot with losses by the Ravens and Chargers, or losses by the Ravens and Patriots, or losses by the Chargers and Patriots, or losses by the Ravens and Dolphins (in Week 16), or losses by the Chargers and Dolphins (in Week 16). And Tennessee remains a threat to catch the Chiefs for the top seed in the conference -- ESPN's FPI says it has a 32% chance.

Remaining schedule: vs. Dolphins, at Texans

5) ) Indianapolis Colts (9-6)

FPI chances to make playoffs: 96%
FPI chances to win division: 6%
Current projected first-round matchup: at Bills

The Colts produced a pretty amazing victory Saturday night in Arizona, playing without most of their starting offensive line as well as star linebacker Darius Leonard, who tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the day. The win allowed the Colts to stay alive in the AFC South race -- they would have been eliminated with a loss -- and strengthened their bid for a wild-card spot. ESPN's FPI considers a playoff spot a near-lock at this point. In fact, the Colts can clinch a playoff spot with a Week 17 win over the Raiders. Indianapolis has won six of its past seven games, and with two more very winnable games on the schedule, it could enter the playoffs on quite a run.

Remaining schedule: vs. Raiders, at Jaguars
