Mike Curtis Died
o
Curtis, whose 14-year career between 1965 and 1978 included 11 with the Colts, has died. Curtis' INT with only seconds remining in the 4th quarter set up Jim O'Brien's game-winning field goal in Super Bowl V against the Cowboys. He was a 4-time Pro Bowler in 1968, 1970, 1971, and 1974, and was awarded the NFL Defensive Player of the Year by the Kansas City Committee of 101 in 1974. Perhaps Curtis' most memorable moment on the field came in between plays ...... when a fan at Memorial Stadium came onto the field and grabbed the football, Curtis leveled him. When asked about it after the game, Curtis stated that the fan "came into our place of work, and therefore I treated him accordingly." Curtis was 77 years-old. RIP Mike.
I just read that Mike Curtis was drafted as a fullback in the 1st round. He must have been a hell of a fullback in college. |
Loved him. I remember when Shula took the Colts to Super Bowl III, everyone flew down, Shula said Curtis came down in a cage. He was an old time football player who died of CTE complications according to his son. Incredibly sad. Way to many of those great Baltimore players ended up that way.
