He was in 27 (I could be wrong but it was in the 20's) deciding games (college and pro) in his life. He was 27-0 in those games. His last year they were the fourth seed in the east and still won it all. Russell is the GOAT, if you consider the object is to win.

Do agree on Brady being a POS and having better teams around him though.

Brady and Russell both had great coaches and players around them. There are at least 12 players who played on Celtics teams during Russells time that are in the Hall of Fame. That's pretty outstanding. Russell was fantastic, but I believe that if you switched Chamberlain and Russell and kept everything else the same, the Celtics would have still won a bunch titles. Maybe a few less than with Russell, but the Celtics were loaded with players and had the best coach too.

You are obviously correct about the coaching and the Hall of Famers. I would point out that every one of those HoFers , Auerbach included, say that the best player on those teams was Russell. His last year they were 43-34 and other than Havlicek not really any stars. Still won. He elevated those around him. Not many can or have done that.

Yes.

Also, after a 2-year hiatus from playing at the championship level after Russell's retirement in 1969, the Celtics drafted Dave Cowens and continued on an elite, championship level for 6 additional seasons, from the 1971-72 season through the 1976-77 season.

Led by Dave Cowens, John Havlicek, and Jo-Jo White, the 1971-72 Celtics had the best record in the Eastern Conference (56-25) before being upset by the Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals. The 1972-1973 Celtics had the 3rd-best record of all-time (68-14) before again being upset by the Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals. Over the next 3 seasons of 1973-74, 1974-75, and 1975-76, the Celtics won 2 World Championships and in the season in between (1974-75) they won 60 games before bowing to the Washington Bullets in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The aging Celtics had one additional winning, competitive season in 1976-77 before bottoming out with 2 losing seasons in the late 70's before Larry Bird came along and revived the ship of the franchise.

The Boston Celtics overall had an absolutely amazing run from the late 50's through the early 90's ........ it was started by Bill Russell and company, and with a couple of small blips, it continued right on through for 3 and-a-half decades.

Every game was essentially a one possession victory. Pretty good for the Wild Card weekend.

Patriots losing in the first round was great. They could not cheat their way out this time.

In any event, fuck all things Boston.
