Salary Cap Update - 08 March 2017

$167.000m = NFL 2017 Salary Cap
$006.614m = 2016 Unused 2016 Colts Cap
=======
$173.614m = 2017 Colts Salary Cap

$114.292m = Current Top 51 Player Cap Hits
$001.080m = Adding players #52 and #53 to Player Cap Hits
$006.224m = Estimated 2017 Colts Draft Pool Cap Hits
$001.376m = Dead Money
$001.224m = Practice Squad ($7,200 per week x 10 players x 17 weeks)
=======
$124.196m = Current Cap Obligations

$49.418m Free Cap Space

Need to take away about $3.000m for in-season "churn" space for when a player goes on IR and a player from the practice squad is "brought up" to the active roster.

We don't yet know the structure of Jack Doyle's new contract. If we assume that it is pretty straight line, then subtract $6.333m in available cap space.

$40.085m in Free Cap Space to sign new free agents.

Go get em, Ballard!

Seems like a lot until you see what teams like Cleveland and SF are working with.

We had the 6th most available cap (prior to re-signing Doyle) with approx. $55m available (just counting the top 51 player obligations and not all the "extras"). The 3rd most (JAX) only has $11m more than us.

However, both CLE and SF have $30m more than us because, well, they stink.

Luckily, both of them will be going for "high" profile Free Agents that have name appeals sizzle (QB, WR, RB) to eat their cap space which will not be competition for "dull" offensive and defensive front guys.

The one thing Grigson did was leave the Colts in great cap shape.

2018 = We only have $96m obligated against a projected cap of $172m.
....(use all $40m this year and we still have $30m of "new" space to spend)

2019 = We only have $70m obligated against a projected cap near $180m.
....(spend all $40m in 2017 and $30m in 2018 and we still have $40m of "new" space to spend)

Sign them all, Ballard. We have the cap space.

Any saving on cutting the Paper Weight? That would be Thornton. Omaha's other love child. Although he would be crushed after losing his boy Allen today

Thorton was already a UFA.

He is not on the team starting at midnight.

I don't like them much. I look at them to bounce numbers off of but they seem to be fairly inaccurate.
